"Music With Mackenzie" school program

The "MUSIC WITH MACKENZIE PROGRAM" consists of three balanced program components and can be integrated into the "Massachusetts Curriculum Framework":

I. PERFORMANCE
II. DEMONSTRATION
III. PARTICIPATION

I. PROGRAM PERFORMANCE
Every Program can be customized to the School's particular focus. Essentially, each performance includes:

Opening:

a.

Brief introduction of the Program to Student Assembly

b.

Two minute video presentation highlighting Mackenzie's artistic

  journey
c. Mackenzie welcomes audience and poses a question or thought
he wants each student to consider during the concert i.e. "what is your passion about/what do you love to do/want to do/learn more about AND how can you contribute your special skills and talents to your community?"

The underlying message is inspirationally "to be the best you can be".

Concert:
Although each Program can be customized to include the School's related focus, the concert always includes new pieces that are performance ready and his "must hear" Concert Pieces:
-Mozart "Fantasia in D Minor"
-Marvin Hamlisch "One" and "What I Did for Love"…from a Chorus Line (He sings and plays both)
-Claude Debussy "Claire De Lune"
-Billy Joel "Medley"…
  Piano Man with Harmonica
My Life
New York State of Mind (song and piano)
-Mackenzie Melemed "Remembering Jeffrey"…original composition

Name that Tune
Students have an opportunity to test their musical knowledge in a highly interactive and fun filled naming/guessing of the "tunes".

What's Your Passion About?
Interactive discussion of student's thoughts and ideas as raised in the opening of the performance.

Closing:
The "Closing" is a sing along with a full array of "American Patriotic Songs". About six (6) students are invited on stage to help hold flags and join in the singing.

II. Program Demonstration:
Mackenzie will demonstrate how original composition, and in particular his own composition have and do involve the utilization of mathematical fractions. He will also discuss the sources of his inspiration for his compositions.

III. Program Participation
Audience interaction is central to his performance. Through "questions and answers", name that tune, patriotic songs, and open discussion, Mackenzie actively engages the audience and brings students to a sense of their own passion and how important it is to discover, pursue and share it with others and community. Not only do students enhance their performing arts appreciation, they could also have an opportunity to dance and sing along as well.
